Doctors' responses

Mild appendicitis caused by pinworm infection is a bit unusual but not entirely unheard of. It’s important to first address the root cause, which is the pinworm infection. Your doctor prescribing antibiotics might be targeting any secondary bacterial infection or inflammation, sometimes, light cases of appendicitis. However, antibiotics won’t eliminate the pinworms themselves; for that, antiparasitic medication is typically required. If you haven’t already been prescribed or mentioned treatments like mebendazole or albendazole, reaching back out to your healthcare provider to discuss this could be beneficial. Antiparasitic drugs are typically effective in treating pinworm infections, taking 1-2 doses with a follow-up dose two weeks later. While antibiotics can help reduce inflammation, they can sometimes take a few days to have a noticeable effect. If your symptoms persist or worsen, the pain increases, or you develop new symptoms like fever, nausea, or vomiting, it’s important to seek medical evaluation promptly to assess for any complications or the need for further intervention, like surgery. Mild cases of appendicitis sometimes resolve with medication, but it’s not guaranteed. Keep in close contact with your healthcare provider to monitor your progress and ensure that your treatment is adjusted as needed.
