what is going on with my body. this month I feel all out of wack.

Somerlyn

Starting Friday 7/11 I started getting cramps and urge to pee a lot. Normally I get cramps for a day or 2 about a week before my period. My period is spot on every month. But the cramps haven’t stop and the urge to pee just came back. I am on the birth control pill and use condoms when having sex. Yesterday my cramps were mainly on my left side. What could this be? I don’t get my period until next week and it is stressing me out.

Your symptoms could be due to a urinary tract infection (UTI) or ovulation pain (mittelschmerz), especially with one-sided cramps and frequent urination. However, since the cramps are persistent and you’re on birth control, it’s important to consult a gynecologist or primary care doctor to rule out UTI, ovarian cyst, or pelvic infection. A urine test and pelvic exam can help identify the cause and guide proper treatment.

Given the symptoms you’re experiencing, there are a few potential explanations to consider. Having cramps and a frequent urge to urinate could point towards several possibilities, such as a urinary tract infection (UTI), which is quite common and can cause discomfort in the lower abdomen, as well as a frequent need to pee. This can happen irrespective of your menstrual cycle and can sometimes be confused with menstrual cramps. Alternatively, though less commonly, ovarian cysts can cause similar symptoms, especially if the discomfort is localized more on one side. This could explain the left-sided cramps you’re experiencing. Birth control pills, while controlling your menstrual cycle, can sometimes be associated with breakthrough bleeding or evevn hormonal shifts that may make you feel out of sync. Considering you’re sexually active, albeit with protection, an ectopic pregnancy needs to be ruled out, though it’s relatively rare when consistently using contraception.

You should consider making an appointment with your healthcare provider. They’ll likely recommend a urinalysis to check for a UTI and might do a pelvic examination or an ultrasound if an ovarian issue is suspected. If a UTI is diagnosed, you’ll typically be prescribed a course of antibiotics, which should clear things up fairly swiftly. In the meantime, ensure you’re staying hydrated, and consider avoiding irritants like caffeine and alcohol, which can exacerbate urinary symptoms. If severe pain or fever develops, seek medical attention promptly, as this could indicate a more serious issue. Remember, while online advice can be informative, having a healthcare professional evaluate you in person is always the best course of action for persistent or concerning symptoms.
