Doctors' responses

Given your concerns about acne and oily skin, there are several strategies you can adopt to manage these symptoms more effectively. Washing your face 5-6 times a day might actually be counterproductive, as over-washing can strip your skin of its natural oils, prompting it to produce even more oil. Instead, aim to cleanse your face twice a day using a gentle cleanser, specifically one labeled as non-comedogenic, which won’t clog pores. After cleansing, applying a light, oil-free moisturizer can help balance your skin’s moisture. Incorporating products containing ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can target blackheads and pimples, though these should be used with caution to prevent irritation and should be patch tested first to check your skin’s reaction. Acne affecting multiple areas, like your back and forehead, suggests a more systemic approach might be needed. Consider consulting with a dermatologist who might recommend treatments like topical retinoids, which can prevent pores from becoming clogged. For persistent acne, oral medications such as antibiotics or retinoids might be an option, but these require professional guidance. Additionally, taking steps to avoid excessive sun exposure and using non-comedogenic, broad-spectrum sunscreen can help prevent acne scars from becoming more visible. It’s also important to consider lifestyle factors — a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and managing stress levels can subtly influence your skin health over time. Remember to avoid picking or squeezing pimples to prevent exacerbating acne or scarring. If your symptoms are severe or causing significant emotional distress, professional help is crucial for a tailored treatment plan.
