How to reduce forehead acne while having dandruff?

Prerna Patil

I have acne since 2 yrs. I also used dermatologist preference but it didn't work. I wash my hairs 3 times in a week with dermat suggested anti dandruff shampoo. The dandruff is reduced but acne aren't.

When dealing with persistent forehead acne while also having dandruff, it’s crucial to address both issues simultaneously, as they can be interlinked. Dandruff might contribute to your acne by causing a build-up of oils and dead skin cells that clog pores. Keep using the anti-dandruff shampoo as per your dermatologist’s recommendation, which can help manage one potential cause of your acne. Consider ensuring that the shampoo and rinse water don’t stay on your face for too long during hair washing, as residual hair product can irritate the skin and contribute to acne. For the acne itself, besides the dermatological treatments, focus on maintaining a regular skincare routine. Use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin of moisture, twice a day. Consider acne treatments containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which are available over-the-counter, but start with lower concentrations to avoid excessive dryness. Reduce touching your face frequently and clean any objects that come in contact with your skin like your phone or pillowcases regularly. It’s also important to assess whether dietary factors, stress, or other lifestyle aspects contribute to your acne – sometimes adjusting these can make a difference. If your current approach seems ineffective, returning to your dermatologist might be wise. They could reassess your condition and prescribe treatments such as topical retinoids or even oral medications if needed. It’s important not to ignore the possibility of hormonal factors, in which case a healthcare provider could explore options like hormonal therapies. Don’t forget to check for elements within your routine that may be sensitizing your skin, such as specific cosmetics, sunscreens, or even harsh laundry detergents.
