Blister near vagina due to pad use in periods

Pooja

I was on my periods so i was using pads. First i got rashes then it turned into a 1cm big blister. Firstly it was painless now it is paining as well. Started3-4days back. It doesn’t look like a pus it is a blister just near the vaginal opening on the thick skin, not the mucosa.

Doctors' responses

Using pads during your period can sometimes lead to skin irritation and eventually to more severe skin issues like blisters, especially if the skin remains in prolonged contact with moisture and friction. In your case, the development from a rash to a blister that is now painful suggests that there’s been increased irritation or perhaps an infection setting in because of continued friction or moisture. It’s important to address this to prevent further problems. Start by keeping the area dry and clean. Switch to a more breathable and hypoallergenic pad type to minimize irritation; some brands are designed specifically for sensitive skin. Alternatively, you might consider trying menstrual cups or tampons if you haven’t before and if these are suitable options for you personally. Applying a thin layer of an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream might help reduce inflammation, but avoid using any harsh creams or ointments that are not meant for sensitive areas. If the blister burst or is very painful, consult a healthcare provider as it might need topical antibiotics or further examination to rule out any infection. Wear breathable, cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothing to promote airflow and reduce further friction. If it’s not improving or if you develop additional symptoms like fever or increased redness and swelling, see a doctor promptly as these can suggest a more serious underlying condition. Keep an eye on it, but don’t delay seeking care if it doesn’t heal or worsens.
