It’s important to approach prolonged fungal infections with care, especially if initial treatments haven’t resolved the condition. The medications you were prescribed—Fluka (likely Fluconazole), Atrex (an antihistamine), Mycoderm powder, and Candid B cream—are standard for treating ringworm. These typically address the infection and associated symptoms like itching. However, incomplete resolution might mean the infection is resistant, or there is a need for a longer application time. Itraconazole (Itracip) is indeed another antifungal option and can be more effective in some cases resistant to other treatments, but it’s crucial to ensure that this step is safe for you personally before proceeding. Itraconazole can have interactions with other medications and side effects particularly affecting the liver, so thorough assessment by a healthcare provider, preferably a dermatologist, before switching or adding a new antifungal treatment is recommended. Moreover, if there are any side-effects from previously prescribed medications, those should be considered. Until you can consult with a healthcare professional, sticking with the prescribed treatment and considering lifestyle and hygiene modifications can be beneficial. Keeping the affected area clean and dry, avoiding tight clothing, and using separate towels can prevent the spread and worsening of the infection. If the condition worsens or you encounter symptoms like fever or spreading patches, it would be prudent to seek follow-up medical advice promptly to reassess the treatment plan.
