how to care liver

Mahi

I am super worried about my liver health. A few months ago, I started feeling super fatigued all the time, like no matter how much I slept, I just couldn't shake it off. Then, I noticed my skin looked kinda yellowish, which freaked me out! I went to the doc, and they said I have elevated liver enzymes or something like that. They didn’t think it was serious but mentioned I better figure out how to care liver properly. They suggested some changes in my diet and said to avoid alcohol, which I thought was a bit too much at first. But then I started doing some research on how to care liver and stumbled on a bunch of do's and don'ts, like eating more leafy greens and staying hydrated. I read that some supplements can help too, but I'm totally lost in what’s actually good or bad. I still feel pretty run down and confused about if I'm doing it right. What I'm wondering is, how to care liver in a way that really makes a difference? Like, are there specific foods I should be focusing on or things I should avoid at all costs? Also, is there a big difference in how to care liver for someone with these enzyme levels than for a totally healthy person? Any advice would be so appreciated, I really want to make sure I'm taking the right steps!

When it comes to caring for your liver, there are a several straightforward and effective steps you can take, especially when you’ve been flagged for elevated liver enzymes. First, it’s important to stick with your doctor’s advice on avoiding alcohol, as it’s one of the primary culprits in liver stress. Cutting out or minimizing alcohol can prevent further liver damage. Focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins. Leafy greens like spinach and kale, along with cruciferous veggies like broccoli and cauliflower, can support liver health by providing vital nutrients and antioxidants. Staying well-hydrated is important, so aim for about 2-3 liters of water daily, unless you’re advised otherwise. Avoid highly processed foods, excessive sugar, and fatty or fried foods, as they can contribute to liver stress and inflammation. Instead, incorporate healthy fats from sources like avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil, which help maintain liver function without overloading it. Regarding supplements, it’s best to be cautious. While milk thistle is oft-cited for liver health, it’s crucial to talk to your healthcare provider before starting any new supplements. They can interact with medications or not be suitable if you have specific underlying conditions. There isn’t much of a difference in the basics of liver care between someone with elevated enzyme levels and a generally healthy individual, but your focus on prevention and damage reduction should be more intense. Regular monitoring of your liver function tests (LFTs) through your healthcare provider will help track your progress and adjust your care plan as needed. If fatigue or any alarming symptoms persist, it’s important to follow up with your doctor to rule out any serious conditions or the need for more targeted interventions.
