best tablet for motions

I am just trying to figure out what the best tablet for motions is because I’ve been having some trouble during my animation classes. My instructor keeps telling me that I need a decent tablet to properly capture motion and the details of the drawings, but honestly, I’m a bit lost. I tried using my old tablet, which is super laggy and it just makes it frustrating to work on any dynamic scenes. I really want to avoid wasting money on something that won’t help either. My friend swears by her graphics tablet but I’m not sure if it’s actually the best tablet for motions since she only does character designs.
