Doctors' responses

Hello I understand your concern about the delayed period. Let me gather a bit more information before giving you guidance.

A few important questions: 1. The home pregnancy test at 8 weeks: - Was it a reliable brand? - Did you do it with first morning urine (most accurate), or evening urine as you mentioned? - Any faint line, or clearly negative? 2. Your menstrual history: - Are your periods normally regular, or do they sometimes vary? - Have you had delays like this before? 3. The white discharge: - Is it odorless, or does it have a smell? - Thick/creamy, or watery? - Any itching or burning? 4. The lifestyle changes you mentioned: - What kind—stress, diet changes, exercise changes, weight loss/gain, travel? - How significant were these changes? 5. Any other symptoms? - Breast tenderness? - Nausea or food aversions? - Fatigue or mood changes? - Abdominal bloating or cramping? 6. Medications: - Are you on any birth control, hormonal pills, or other medications?

What I can tell you now: A one-month delay with a negative pregnancy test could be due to stress, lifestyle changes, hormonal fluctuations, or other factors—but you do need proper evaluation to rule out pregnancy and other causes.

Thank you

Since your last period started on 23 December and your cycle has been delayed for 1–2 months with a negative home pregnancy test, pregnancy is less likely, especially if the test was done after several weeks, but it is still best to confirm properly. Mild white discharge without pain, itching, or bad smell is usually normal and related to hormonal changes. Common causes of delayed periods include stress, recent lifestyle or routine changes, weight fluctuation, hormonal imbalance, thyroid problems, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or temporary ovulation delay. You should first repeat a pregnancy test using early morning urine or do a blood beta-hCG test for confirmation; if negative, a pelvic ultrasound and basic hormone tests (thyroid and PCOS screening) can help find the cause. Do not take period-inducing medicines on your own, as they should only be used after ruling out pregnancy and under a doctor’s guidance. Consulting a gynecologist for proper evaluation and safe treatment would be the best next step.

Hi, thank you for reaching out. I understand your concern about the delay. Here is what you need to know:

· Negative test is reassuring: A negative pregnancy test at 8 weeks is highly reliable. With a one-month delay and negative result, pregnancy is very unlikely. · Why periods delay: · Anovulation (not ovulating) is the most common cause—often triggered by stress, minor lifestyle changes, or hormonal imbalance. · Since you mentioned minor changes, this fits perfectly. · White discharge is normal and doesn’t indicate infection unless it’s itchy or foul-smelling. · Do you need tests? · Blood test (Beta-hCG) : Optional but can give 100% confirmation if you want absolute peace of mind. · Ultrasound: Not urgent now. Only needed if periods remain irregular for several months. · Is it safe to take medicine to bring periods? · No, do not take any medicine without doctor consultation. · Medications to induce periods (like progesterone) should only be given after confirming pregnancy is ruled out and under medical supervision. · Next steps: · Wait another 1-2 weeks. If period still doesn’t arrive, consult a gynaecologist. · They may prescribe a short course of progesterone to induce withdrawal bleeding and reset your cycle. · Reduce stress, maintain sleep routine—this alone often restores cycles.

Hello

Periods can be delayed by stress, hormonal imbalance, weight change, travel, thyroid issues, or late ovulation.

A negative home pregnancy test at 8 weeks makes pregnancy unlikely, but confirm once more with a🛑 morning🛑 urine test or a blood hCG test.

What to do: • If still no period → see a doctor for blood tests ± ultrasound

• Do not take period-inducing medicine without proper check up and medical advice

If there’s no pain or heavy bleeding, it’s usually not urgent — but evaluation is recommended after 1–2 months delay.

I trust this helps Thank you Take care

A delayed period, particularly if your cycle is usually regular, can sometimes be caused by various factors such as hormonal imbalances, stress, significant weight changes, or certain medical conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Since you’ve already had a negative pregnancy test, it’s less likely, though not impossible, that pregnancy is the reason, especially given that it was done with evening urine which might be less concentrated. However, if there’s still a concern about pregnancy, it’s advisable to take another test using first-morning urine or consult your doctor for a more reliable blood test.

White discharge can be normal, but if it’s accompanied by itching, a strong odor, or any discomfort, it may suggest an infection, which should be checked out by a healthcare provider. In terms of further investigation, a blood test can give insights into your hormone levels, possibly identifying issues like thyroid dysfunction or elevated prolactin levels. An ultrasound might be useful if there are concerns about structural problems such as ovarian cysts.

Regarding medication to induce a period, it’s crucial not to self-medicate. Some medications, like hormonal therapy, can be used to regulate periods but should only be taken under a doctor’s supervision due to potential side effects and interactions. Consulting a healthcare provider is essential to determine the underlying cause and decide if medication is appropriate and safe in your case. They can provide a tailored plan based on your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors. In the meantime, keeping a record of any additional symptoms and changes to your cycle can be helpful for your appointment.

Hello, thank you for sharing your concern. Your home pregnancy test was negative at around 8 weeks, pregnancy is unlikely. Here is my advise for you-

1. Get done a Pelvic Ultrasound and review with the report.

2. Blood Tests - CBC, FT3 FT4 TSH, FSH, LH, Prolactin, Testosterone.

3. After the ultrasound report, we will decide on whether to give you medicine to get your periods or some other treatment.

If you develop severe abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, or dizziness, seek medical care promptly.

A delayed period can occur due to stress, hormonal imbalance, weight changes, or conditions like PCOS, and sometimes periods may skip for a cycle even when pregnancy is negative. Since your home pregnancy test was negative at 8 weeks, pregnancy is less likely, but a blood pregnancy test (β-hCG) and pelvic ultrasound can help confirm the cause of the delay. Consult a Gynecologist before taking any medicine to induce periods, so the correct diagnosis and safe treatment can be given.
