It sounds like you’re experiencing symptoms that are quite common with functional gastrointestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or chronic constipation. These issues often come up in younger individuals and can be linked to a variety things such as dietary habits, stress, or even changes in your gut microbiota. The pattern of occasional constipation and feeling bloated suggests that your digestive transit might be a bit sluggish at times. Consider if there’s enough fiber in your diet, as this can often impact bowel habits significantly. Aim for 25-30 grams of fiber daily from a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. You might need to track your fiber intake for a few days to get a clearer picture of your actual consumption. In terms of tests, if your symptoms have been persistent and you notice any alarming signs like unintended weight loss, rectal bleeding, or intense abdominal pain, then visiting a doctor promptly is advisable. They might recommend some basic blood tests or even an abdominal ultrasound to exclude other causes. Keep an eye on the regularity of your symptoms and whether they worsen. It’s also worth considering if specific foods trigger your symptoms; sometimes keeping a food diary over a few weeks will help identify any patterns that might be contributing to your symptoms. For treatment, staying hydrated, managing stress, and keeping a regular routine for meals and exercise - which it seems like you’re already doing - can help. Sometimes, over-the-counter options like bulk-forming laxatives can be of assistance, but it’s best to speak with a healthcare provider before starting these. Mention any medication or supplements you might be taking as these could contribute to gut issues, too. If things don’t improve or if you’re concerned, a visit to a gastroenterologist could provide further insights and personalized guidance.
