shastri park hospital

Sara

I am worried about my mom's recent health problems. She started having really bad chest pains last week, and at first, I thought it was just anxiety because she's been stressed with work. But then, they got worse, and I rushed her to Shastri Park Hospital late at night. The doctors there did a bunch of tests, like an ECG and some blood work, but they said everything seemed fine and sent us home after a few hours. I mean, I appreciate they didn’t find anything seriously wrong, but now she says she still feels tightening in her chest and sometimes it spreads to her arm. Is this normal?! I thought Shastri Park Hospital would be more thorough. Should we go back and ask for a second opinion or maybe even see a specialist? I’m just worried we didn’t get all the answers we need. Are there any common conditions that could cause these symptoms but still show up as “fine” in tests? Could it be something that’s just not showing up? I feel lost here, and I'm not sure if I should trust what the docs at Shastri Park Hospital said. Any advice would be super helpful right now, thanks!

Doctors' responses

Given your mom’s ongoing symptoms, there’s definitely a need to stay cautious and consider the possibility of underlying issues that could be missed in initial tests. Sometimes, even if an ECG and basic blood work come back normal, other heart-related conditions like angina or microvascular disease may not be immediately apparent. Stress and anxiety can indeed mimic cardiac symptoms, but when chest pain is persistent, especially with arm pain spreading, it’s crucial to consider alternative diagnoses and take further steps. I recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with either a cardiologist or at a well-equipped hospital that can conduct more detailed tests, like a stress test, an echocardiogram, or even advanced imaging like a cardiac CT or MRI if needed. These can pick up subtler signs of heart disease. Additionally, it’s important to rule out other conditions like gastrointestinal ones (e.g., GERD) or musculoskeletal issues that might cause similar symptoms. In the meantime, ensuring your mom is taking it easy, managing stress effectively, and monitoring for any worsening symptoms is critical. If ever the chest pain becomes severe, new symptoms appear, or if there’s a sense of something just not being right, seeking immediate medical attention once again is advised. Even if the initial work-up seemed thorough, pursuing a second opinion or specialist input can provide additional reassurance and clarity on her health status. It’s better to over-check than to under-evaluate in such scenarios, to ensure her safety and peace of mind for both of you.
