can we soak sabja seeds overnight

Shaurya

I am really confused about these sabja seeds, I thought they were supposed to be soaked before using, but now I'm not even sure. A few days ago, I bought some from the health food store because I heard they were great for digestion and weight loss. I tried adding them to my smoothies without soaking, but they felt kinda crunchy — not what I was expecting, you know? Then my friend said that I should soak sabja seeds overnight for the best benefits. But like, can we soak sabja seeds overnight? I mean, will that make them better? Some sites say it makes them expand and easier to digest, while others don't say anything about soaking. I'm also worried about the nutritional value and if soaking actually reduces anything. I didn't get any instructions with the seeds, which is frustrating too. I tried last night and honestly, I forgot about them after an hour and just tossed them in the fridge worried they wouldn’t be good anymore. Does soaking them overnight really bring out more nutrients or flavor, or is it just a myth? Any advice would help cause I really wanna use these sabja seeds correctly!

Yes, you can soak sabja seeds overnight if you prefer, and actually, it’s quite common. Soaking them allows the seeds to absorb water, swell, and become gelatinous, which often makes them easier to digest and incorporate into foods like smoothies or desserts. Typically, you don’t need to soak them overnight; about 20-30 minutes is usually sufficient for sabja seeds to fully expand. This should give you the consistency you’re looking for. However, soaking them longer won’t harm them and could make them more palatable for some people. In terms of nutritional value, soaking sabja seeds doesn’t significantly reduce their nutritional content. These seeds are rich in fiber, protein, essential fats, and various vitamins and minerals, and these components remain largely intact throughout the soaking process. Soaking might make these nutrients somewhat easier to digest and absorb, though that can vary person to person. If you find them too crunchy in your smoothies when unsoaked, soaking will likely help achieve a more pleasant texture. It’s crucial to ensure they have enough water while soaking—usually, 1-2 tablespoons of seeds in a cup or two of water should do. Though some folks opt to soak overnight for meal prep convenience, there’s no strict need for such an extended timeframe unless that suits your schedule better. Consider experimenting to find what texture and soak time you prefer.
