Dr. Nikita Patil
Experience: | 2 years |
Education: | Karnataka State Dental Council |
Academic degree: | Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) |
Area of specialization: | I am a pedodontist, and my whole focus is on dental care for kids, from toddlers with first teeth coming in to older children with mixed dentition. Working with kids is different, it’s not only about treating cavities or pulling a tooth, it’s about building trust, reducing fear and making dental visits a positive memory instead of a scary one. I deal with preventive care like fluoride application, sealants, and regular cleaning, but also manage fillings, pulp therapy and extractions when needed.
Sometimes the challenge is not just the tooth but the behaviour management, because kids react very differently in a clinic setting. Over time I learnt to adapt my communication style—sometimes distraction, sometimes gentle explanation, sometimes just patience. I also handle interceptive orthodontics, guiding growth and alignment early to prevent bigger issues later.
My interest extends into child nutrition, oral hygiene education and habits like thumb sucking or mouth breathing which affect long term dental health. I work closely with parents too, since their involvement decides how well children follow oral care routines at home.
Being trained as a specialist in pedodontics means I understand the anatomy, psychology and dental needs of children in depth. My aim is to provide safe, effective treatment in a child friendly way, making sure they leave the clinic with less anxiety and healthier smiles. |
Achievements: | I am proud that during my academic journey I secured 7th rank in the university, which for me was not just a number but a proof of the consistency and effort I put through those years. It wasn’t always easy balancing theory, clinics and late night revisions, but that rank gave me confidence that I was on the right path. It shaped my discipline, sharpened my focus on details and gave me a stronger base to build my clinical practice with more clarity and commitment toward patients. |
I am working in medical field for about 2 yrs now and those two years taught me things that can’t always be learnt from textbooks alone. In this time I have handled patients in OPD, inpatient wards, emergencies too, and each setting demanded a diff kind of focus. Some days were about long followups and careful adjustments in treatment, other days were about quick decision making when every minute counted. I tried to balance both, learning how to listen patiently but also act fast when situation needed. My experience in these 2 yrs gave me exposure to varied cases—common fevers, respiratory issues, metabolic disorders, trauma cases, and post op care. I realized early that no patient is the same, even if diagnosis is. One person might need reassurance more than medicine, another may need strong intervention before things spiral. I learnt to adapt, to explain, and to work closely with seniors and team members to make sure patients got complete care. I keep focus on evidence based practice but also on practical solutions that suit the patient’s lifestyle, because long term outcomes depend on how realistic the plan is. Preventive health, patient education and regular followups became a big part of my routine. I also worked with children and elderly patients, both groups requiring extra patience and communication skills. Looking back, these 2 yrs may sound short but they laid the foundation for how I approach medicine now—structured yet flexible, professional but also personal when needed. My aim going forward is to keep improving both my knowledge and my ability to connect with patients, since real care means understanding the person as much as the disease.
