I have shifted to mumbai in may 2025. From June I am seeing increase in hairfall. Is this due to relocation and monsoon???? I am using minoxidil from last 2 years . Is it normal to get seasonal hairfall even after using minoxidil

Doctors’ responses
Increased hair fall after moving to a new city is often caused by changes in water quality (especially hard water), increased stress from the transition, and potential shifts in diet and nutrition. Hair follicles can be sensitive to these changes, leading to a condition called telogen effluvium where more hairs enter the shedding phase. To help, use a water filter for hair, eat a balanced diet rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, manage stress through relaxation, and use gentle hair care products. If hair fall persists after a few months, consult a dermatologist to rule out other underlying conditions.
Relocating, especially to a new city like Mumbai, can definitely contribute to increased hair fall. Environmental changes, like differences in water quality, climate, and pollution levels, can have an impact on hair health. Mumbai’s monsoons can add to these factors by causing increased humidity, which might cause weaken hair shaft making it more prone to fall. Stress from relocating and adjusting to a new place can also trigger hair shedding due to a condition called telogen effluvium, where stress pushes hair follicles into a resting phase and leads to temporary hair loss. Regarding the use of minoxidil, while it is effective in promoting hair growth, it doesn’t completely shield against all kinds of hair fall, especially external and seasonal factors. It’s possible to experience seasonal hair shedding, particularly in response to environmental changes, even while using minoxidil. If you’ve noticed a sudden and significant increase in hair loss, it’s a good idea to visit a dermatologist. They can help assess any underlying issues such as nutritional deficiencies or scalp conditions that might need addressing. Meanwhile, make sure you’re taking steps to minimize hair damage—use mild shampoos, avoid excessive heat styling, and maintain a balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals that support hair health. Keep an eye on your symptoms, and if there are any additional concerns or worsening of the situation, seeking medical guidance sooner rather than later is crucial.
