Doctors’ responses

Premature ejaculation is a common issue that can affect men regardless of hormone levels or other factors, including having high testosterone or random erections. The underlying causes can be complex, often involving psychological, behavioral, or physical components. Anxiety, stress, or relationship dynamics might play a role, even if subconsciously. On the physiological side, hypersensitivity, neurological or hormonal variations, and conditions like prostatitis may contribute. It’s crucial to start by ruling out any underlying medical issues through a consultation with your healthcare provider. Meanwhile, there are some strategies you can try that might help improve your endurance. Behavioral techniques like the stop-start method or the squeeze technique during intercourse can help by building control over the timing of ejaculation. Pelvic floor exercises, like Kegel exercises, can strengthen the muscles that control ejaculation. These are usually done by consciously contracting and holding the pelvic floor muscles, similar to stopping the flow of urine, for a few seconds, several times a day. Sometimes, topical anesthetics or certain medications, like SSRIs, can help delay ejaculation, but these should be discussed and prescribed by a healthcare professional. Maintaining a open conversation with your partner about your experiences and trying different positions or pacing during intercourse could also help manage the condition. Lastly, lifestyle factors such as reducing stress, getting adequate sleep, and moderating alcohol and caffeine intake can impact sexual health and should be considered. If this issue continues or becomes a source of significant distress, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional who can provide personalized assessment and treatment options tailored to your specific situation.
