fruits good for loose motion - #20849

Palak

I am having this really annoying issue with loose motion — like, it’s been happening off and on for a few days now and I just don’t know what to do. Tried some over-the-counter meds, but nothing seems to be workin! Anyway, my friend mentioned that there are specific fruits good for loose motion, like bananas and apples, but I'm not really sure how to incorporate them or if they actually help at all. I mean, I’ve been eating a lot of food that's harder to digest and maybe that's why this keeps coming back? What fruits are good for loose motion that I should be eating? Should I just stick to bananas or are there other ones too? This morning I tried a banana and felt a bit better right after, but honestly I don’t think I can live off just bananas! Also, should I avoid other fruits or is that just a myth? I guess I just don’t wanna make my symptoms worse, you know? Just need some advice on the fruits good for loose motion… any help would really be appreciated!!

For loose motions, certain fruits can indeed be beneficial because they contain soluble fiber, pectin, and essential nutrients that can help bulk up your stool and provide some relief. Bananas are a great choice; their pectin content can solidify your stools, and they are soothing on the stomach. They’re also rich in potassium, which can help you recover lost electrolytes that often accompany diarrhea. Apples are another option, ideally cooked or in applesauce form as this increases the concentration of pectin, though you might want to avoid raw apples as they may be harder to digest when you are experiencing loose motion. The BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) is often recommended because it’s bland and gentle on the digestive system. Besides bananas and applesauce, you might consider eating pears or incorporating them in your diet in the form of a juice or smoothie. They’re typically cooked to reduce fiber content, helping the gut absorb it more easily. Avoid fruits with a high content of insoluble fiber, like raw berries or plums, as they can exacerbate loose motions. Also, steer clear of citrus fruits, like oranges, as their acidity can irritate your digestive tract. Remember though, staying hydrated is crucial during this time, as loose motions can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of water or oral rehydration solutions to maintain your body’s electrolyte balance. If however, symptoms persist after a few days or worsen, it could imply an underlying condition that needs medical attention—seek advice from a healthcare professional to rule out any serious issues and ensure a proper diagnosis. Over-the-counter meds are sometimes not enough if there’s more than just a dietary component at play.
