Hair loss and thinning at your age can be distressing, but it’s important to first identify any underlying medical causes. Hormonal fluctuations, such as those due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid issues, can contribute to hair thinning. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly iron, vitamin D, and certain B vitamins, are also common culprits. Poor diet and skipping meals can exacerbate these deficiencies, further worsening hair health. Consider getting blood tests to evaluate these nutritional markers and hormones. Stress, as you mentioned, can also be a significant factor, possibly leading to a condition called telogen effluvium, where hair falls out more easily. Regular, gentle scalp massages are beneficial, promoting circulation, but be sure to avoid pulling or overly vigorous scrubbing, which might aggravate hair loss. You may try a balanced diet rich in protein, iron, and essential fatty acids, which are crucial for hair health. While changing shampoos often might irritate your scalp, if dandruff or itching is noticeable, consider products with ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione, which can be helpful for those conditions. If these symptoms persist or worsen, seeking advice from a dermatologist or a trichologist can provide specialized support. They may prescribe minoxidil, a topical treatment that stimulates hair growth, after evaluating your specific case. Remember, consistency is key with hair treatments—it might take months to notice significant improvements.
