Dealing with acne and dark circles can be hard, but there are several steps you can take to help manage these issues. Starting with acne, it’s important to follow a consistent skincare routine that includes a gentle cleanser to use twice daily (morning and night) to remove excess oil, dirt, and bacteria. Over-the-counter products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can help reduce acne by targeting bacteria and exfoliating your skin respectively. Remember to apply them to your spots daily, but watch out; overuse can irritate your skin. Moisturize with a non-comedogenic moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Avoid touching your face frequently, as this can transfer oils and bacteria, possibly worsening acne. If your acne persists or is severe, you might want to see a dermatologist who can offer treatments such as prescription creams, oral medications, or other therapies. For the dark circles, ensure you’re getting enough sleep as sleep deprivation can worsen their appearance. Using a good eye cream with ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, or caffeine may improve the skin around the eyes by boosting collagen and improving circulation. Furthermore, protecting your under-eye area with a broad-spectrum SPF can help prevent the darkening from sun exposure. Staying hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins can also support skin health. If lifestyle changes and over-the-counter products aren’t helping much, a dermatologist could offer alternative treatments like chemical peels or laser therapy. Don’t forget — picking or squeezing your acne spots can cause the scars to get darker or cause further blemishes, so it’s best avoided.
