Doctors’ responses

Experiencing extreme hairfall, especially over an extended period, can be troubling, and pinpointing the exact cause can sometimes be challenging when blood tests and vitamin levels appear normal. It’s important to consider other factors that might not be immediately reflected in standard tests. Common causes can include hormonal changes, stress, autoimmune conditions, or even certain medications. If you haven’t already, talking to a dermatologist who specializes in hair disorders might be something to consider—they can perform detailed assessments, like scalp biopsies if needed. Treatment options can vary based on what’s discovered; they might involve topical solutions like minoxidil, which can promote hair growth, or other medications like finasteride if the hairfall pattern is suggestive of androgenetic alopecia. Beyond medication, looking into lifestyle factors could be beneficial too—ensuring a balanced diet, managing stress levels, and avoiding harsh hair treatments that further damage hair. Adding gentle scalp massages can stimulate blood flow to the area. If your hairfall persists despite these interventions, repeat assessments over time might be crucial to catch any emerging or missed causes. It’s also worth reevaluating any medications or supplements you’re currently on, discussing with your doctor whether any of these could potentially contribute to hair issues—sometimes, changing a medication under the guidance of a professional might make a difference too. Such conditions can significantly affect self-esteem, so while addressing the physical symptoms, considering support groups or therapy focusing on self-image can be useful concurrently.
