How to strengthen kidney function naturally?

Parth

I am really desperate for some advice here. For the past few months, I’ve been feeling super fatigued and had these weird swelling moments, especially in my legs, which I thought was just from standing too long at work. But after getting some tests done, my doctor mentioned my kidneys aren’t functioning as well as they should. I’m now looking into ways about how to strengthen kidney function naturally because I really want to avoid medications if possible. I’ve read about drinking more water, maybe some herbal teas, and eating better but I'm not sure what exactly would help. I tried cutting back on salt and processed stuff but then I got confused about what else to do. I heard some things about beets and dandelion could be good, but is that really true? And what about exercise? I mean, I walk a lot but I can’t keep going out for long runs. Just don’t have the energy lately! I want to know, how to strengthen kidney function naturally? Is there a specific diet or routine that anyone recommends? Any tips would be super appreciated. Feeling really lost right now!

Doctors' responses

To help improve kidney function naturally, start by focusing on fluid intake. Drinking enough water can help, but be cautious not to overdo it, especially if a doctor has indicated specific fluid restrictions for your condition. Balance your diet with less salt and eat whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats to maintain electrolyte balance. Herbal teas can support hydration, but be vary wary of any herb with claims to improve kidney health without evidence, as some could potentially be harmful. Dandelion and beets promote diuretics effects; however, high oxalate content in beets could increase kidney stone risk, so moderation is key. Exercise like walking is beneficial, and listening to your body’s signals is essential if fatigue hits. Include some simple strength exercises to improve circulation and energy levels. Consider trying consistent light activity over informal runs, as they are less taxing. Regular movement helps with overall metabolic health and maintaining a healthy weight which can relieve kidney stress. Monitor protein intake, aim for higher quality rather than quantity. Focus on plant-based proteins and fish, instead of red meat. Work closely with your healthcare provider to monitor your kidney function regularly. Remember, some underlying conditions causing kidney issues may require specific medical interventions. If any symptoms worsen abruptly, seek medical attention promptly as delaying treatment can exacerbate issues.
