dengu mein kya kya khana chahie - #12948

Diya

I am really worried about my cousin who got diagnosed with dengue last week. She’s been experiencing high fevers and terrible joint pain. The doctors said it's a bit severe but are keeping her under observation. I remember her saying she felt so weak and lost her appetite, which totally makes sense given how draining dengue can be. Now, she’s asking me for advice on what she should eat because she wants to get better as soon as possible. I’m just not sure and I really want to help her out! So, I was wondering, in the case of dengue, what dengu mein kya kya khana chahie? I read online that hydrating is super important, but like should she only stick to soup and juices? Is there anything in particular that would help boost her recovery? Also, should she be avoiding any foods while sick? Some of her friends suggested she needs to stay away from spicy stuff, which I kinda get, but is that really true? It's so confusing! I'm scared she might not get the nutrients she needs, specially since her energy levels are plummeting. Any insights on this would be so helpful! Like, dengu mein kya kya khana chahie? What should I tell her? I'm just feeling a bit lost here.

Doctors' responses

When it comes to managing dengue with diet, focusing on nutrition and hydration is a key aspect of recovery. For your cousin, ensuring she stays well-hydrated is vital, as dengue often leads to high fevers and fluid loss which could intensify dehydration. Encourage her to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day – water, coconut water, and oral rehydration solutions are ideal as they replenish lost electrolytes. Freshly squeezed juices without added sugar, like orange juice and papaya juice, can be beneficial as they provide vitamins and boost immunity; however, moderation is key to avoid digestive stress. Light, easily digestible foods are crucial while she’s recovering. Soups, broths, and boiled vegetables are gentle on her stomach. Lean proteins, like chicken or fish, should be introduced gradually to support her strength. Rice, oatmeal, or porridge are options that can provide energy without being overly taxing on her digestive system. Losing your appetite is common, so small, frequent meals might help her get adequate nutrition without overwhelming her digestion. She should avoid oily and spicy foods as these can irritate the stomach and worsen discomfort. While there’s no specific food that can speed up recovery, a balanced diet with nutrients like vitamins C and K, and iron, can support her body in fighting the virus and repairing itself. In dengue, platelet counts can drop, so foods like pomegranate and kiwi might be suggested by some, but remember, only her healthcare team can adequately address any concerns about her specific dietary needs and monitor her condition’s severity. As her condition is severe, and she’s under observation, it’s critical to follow the medical team’s guidelines on diet and manage any dietary changes with their input. Ensuring timely follow-up with healthcare providers is essential, as they can make tailored recommendations based on her response to treatment and overall progress.
