best food for dengue patient - #15296

Aadhyant

I am really worried about my brother who just got diagnosed with dengue. He's been super weak, really high fevers reaching 102°F and awful joint pain. The doctors mentioned that hydration is key, but I can’t shake this feeling that what he eats is equally important. Like, what is the best food for dengue patient? He’s not been eating much at all, just plain rice and soup, but I feel like there must be some better options, right? I read somewhere that fruits can help, like papayas or pomegranates, but I really don’t know what the best food for dengue patient would actually be. Can we add some spices or is it just bland stuff? He’s craving spicy food but I don’t wanna do anything that would make him feel worse since dengue is serious and I don't wanna risk it. Also, I heard coconuts are good – should we stick to coconut water or can he eat the flesh too? If anyone has experience or knowledge about what is truly the best food for dengue patient, I’d appreciate any advice. I just want him to feel a bit better and recover fast!

For dengue patients, maintaining adequate fluid intake is crucial due to the risk of dehydration from fever and reduced appetite. Coconut water is excellent as it provides electrolytes and helps with dehydration. It’s safe for him to have the coconut flesh too, in moderation, as it’s nutritious and easy to digest. For his diet, focusing on a mix of easily digestible foods is key. Offer him clear broths and soups, which can be soothing and provide some nutrients. Rice and pasta can be good bases as carbohydrate sources. Boosting his immune system through nutrition is important. Fresh fruits high in vitamin C, like papayas and oranges, can aid his recovery by enhancing immune function. Papaya leaves have been suggested to increase platelet counts, however, you should consult his doctor before trying this. Pomegranate is another good option because it’s rich in antioxidants. Spicy foods might further irritate his stomach, especially given the fever and joint pain he’s experiencing, so it’s best to keep spices minimal and mild. Foods like boiled vegetables can add variety and nutrition without causing irritation. Small, frequent meals can make eating more manageable if he has a low appetite. Check his hydration status by observing if his urine is light-colored, which indicates he’s drinking enough. If he shows any warning signs like severe abdominal pain, decrease in urine output, bleeding gums, or persistent vomiting, seek medical attention promptly, as they can be signs that the condition is worsening.
