daily use of aloe vera on face - #16907

Shaurya

I am kind of confused about the effects of daily use of aloe vera on face. Like, I started using aloe vera gel, you know, fresh from the plant, about a month ago. At first, I thought my skin was looking great, super hydrated and everything, but now I’ve noticed some weird breakouts, which has me worried. Are these breakouts normal? I mean, I read that daily use of aloe vera on face can be really good for clearing up skin, but could it be causing more harm than good? Also, sometimes my skin feels kinda sticky after application, and I don’t know if that’s a bad thing. Am I using too much? Or do I need to change my routine? I’m also concerned about how long these breakouts might last. Does anyone else experience this with daily use of aloe vera on face? Should I only use it in moderation instead of slapping it on every day? Any advice would be appreciated! I just want to figure out if this is something my skin actually needs or if it’d be better to stop the daily use of aloe vera on face altogether. I really want to get my skin back to normal!

Doctors’ responses

When it comes to using aloe vera daily on your face, there are several factors to consider in understanding potential adverse effects like breakouts. Aloe vera is renowned for its soothing and hydrating properties, largely due to its high water content and presence of mucopolysaccharides, which help lock moisture into the skin. However, sensitivities or allergic reactions to aloe vera can occur in some individuals, leading to breakouts or irritation. It’s possible that in your case, the fresh gel from the plant might not suit your skin type, especially with daily application. Sometimes, excessive use can lead to pore clogging, particularly if your skin doesn’t fully absorb the gel after each application, causing that sticky feeling you’ve noted. Moderating your use, perhaps applying it every other day instead of daily, might give your skin a chance to adapt without overwhelming it.

Consider conducting a patch test on a small area of skin before applying aloe vera extensively. Moreover, ensure you are cleansing thoroughly but gently, to prevent excess residue from sitting on the skin and potentially leading to clogs. If the breakouts persist despite moderating use, it may be worthwhile to stop application entirely and monitor whether your skin improves. Additionally, if you’re experiencing prolonged or severe breakouts, consulting with a dermatologist can provide tailored insights. Ultimately, it’s important to assess how the aloe vera affects your particular skin type, as reactions can vary significantly from person to person.
