how to deal with pimples - #17972

Khushi

I am a bit stressed, and I really need advice on how to deal with pimples. I'm 22, and over the last few months, I’ve been breaking out like crazy! Like, I used to have clear skin, and suddenly I’ve got these big, painful bumps and red spots popping up all over. I feel like I’ve tried everything. I’ve switched my face wash, I’m using one of those spot treatments, and I've started drinking more water. But like, nothing seems to work! Last week I saw a friend of mine who used an over-the-counter cream and her skin looks amazing now, but when I tried that same one, it just made things worse!! I read online about how some people also have success with diets and supplements but honestly, I'm not sure what to believe. Could it be something I’m eating? Are there better products I can use? I'm just really unsure how to deal with pimples – this is affecting my confidence a lot. My mom keeps telling me it’s just a phase, but it's like a constant reminder when I look in the mirror. It feels like the more I stress about them, the worse it gets! So, any tips on exactly how to deal with pimples from all of you would be super helpful. Am I missing something here? Please help!

Dealing with breakouts can be frustrating, especially when it seems like the usual remedies aren’t helping. At your age, acne is not uncommon, and stress can indeed exacerbate it. Let’s break down what might help. First, ensure you’re not over-cleansing your skin; washing more than twice a day can strip natural oils right from your skin and trigger more oil production. Stick to a gentle cleanser that fits your skin type—if it feels tight afterwards, it might be too harsh. Consider using products with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, as they are effective in reducing acne by fighting bacteria and exfoliating the skin, respectively. However, don’t use them too aggressively, as this might lead to irritations. Try out a retinoid cream, which can speed up cell turnover and reduce acne. They can be drying, so follow with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. Diet does play a role for some individuals; try reducing intake of high-glycemic foods like sugary snacks and refined carbs, as well as dairy, as they might fuel inflammation. Track any dietary changes to see if they impact your skin condition. If your acne is cystic or particularly persistent, consulting with a dermatologist would be a wise move—they can prescribe treatments such as oral antibiotics or stronger topical medications. Stress management is crucial too; practices like mindfulness, exercising regularly, or simply ensuring adequate sleep can do wonders for both mind and skin. Avoid experimenting with too many new products at once, as interactions can lead to unpredictable reactions. It’s important not to pick or squeeze pimples as this can worsen scarring and inflammation. If you notice any signs of infection, or if it impacts your daily functioning, seek prompt medical attention. Lastly, it’s also worth keeping a check if any medications or new habits might be linked to your breakouts. Remember that changes in skincare routines take time to show results—be patient for several weeks rather than days. While it may feel like a phase, each case is unique, and understanding your individual skin’s needs is key in managing and reducing acne successfully.
