black spots on forehead male - #18926

Rohan

I am a bit worried about some changes I've noticed on my skin lately. About a month ago, I started seeing these black spots on my forehead. At first, I thought it was just some acne or maybe dirt that wouldn't wash off. But it hasn’t gone away and instead, I feel like more spots are showing up! I usually take good care of my skin, but this feels different. The black spots on my forehead sometimes itch, but mostly they just look really strange. I’ve tried some over-the-counter creams and even went for a scrub thinking it might help, but nothing seems to work! And they’re not going away! I even talked to a friend who said black spots on forehead male could be a sign of something serious, which freaked me out a bit. Am I overreacting? Should I be seeing a dermatologist, or is this something simple? Like maybe it’s just age spots or something benign? I mean, I’m not that old, but who knows! Any insights on what these black spots on forehead male could indicate would be super helpful. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Doctors' responses

Black spots on the forehead can arise from various causes, ranging from benign to more concerning conditions. In your case, the persistence and itching of the spots do warrant medical attention to rule out anything serious. A common cause for dark spots on the skin is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which can occur after acne or skin injuries. This doesn’t seem to line up perfectly with your description, given that the spots are persistent and itchy. Lentigines, or age spots, are another possibility, but they typically appear in older age and are not usually associated with itchiness. One condition to consider might be seborrheic keratosis, which often presents as dark or brown spots that can itch or feel raised. These are common and generally harmless but can sometimes resemble something more concerning like melanoma, which necessitates a check-up. Given that the spots haven’t responded to OTC remedies and you’ve noticed an increase in number, a visit to a dermatologist is prudent. They can use dermoscopy to examine the spots more closely and may recommend a biopsy if there’s any suspicion of something like melanoma. It’s pretty important to rule out skin cancer, especially since it’s easier to manage when caught early. Avoid further irritation by not using harsh scrubs or unverified creams as these might exacerbate the condition. While waiting for a dermatological assessment, use sunscreen to protect your skin and limit sun exposure which can worsen pigmentation. If any spots begin to change rapidly, bleed, or become painful, prioritize seeing a healthcare provider promptly.
