can we eat apple in dengue - #19061

Arya

I am super worried because my friend just got diagnosed with dengue and now I’m wondering, can we eat apple in dengue? She was feeling really bad last week, super high fever and joint pain — I thought it was just a normal viral thing but turns out it’s dengue. The doc told her to stay hydrated and rest a lot. I remember she used to always have apples as her go-to snack, she said they were good for health, but now I’m confused — can we eat apple in dengue? Like, would that interfere with anything? She’s also feeling nauseated sometimes and her stomach isn’t great. I read somewhere that some foods can aggravate stomach issues, and I just wanna make sure she’s getting the right nutrition, you know? Should she avoid fruits altogether or are there some fruits better than others? I really want to help her heal, but, like, I don’t want to give her the wrong advice! It’s hard seeing her like this. Can eating apples be beneficial or should she just steer clear?? Any thoughts would be really appreciated, thanks!

Doctors' responses

Eating apples during dengue fever is generally safe and can even be beneficial, as they’re nutritious and can contribute to your friend’s overall health while her body fights off the infection. Apples provide a good source of vitamins and fiber, which can help maintain energy levels and support digestion. However, they should be consumed in moderation and washed thoroughly to ensure they’re clean, especially since her immunity might be compromised during this time. It’s important to prioritize hydration, so alongside foods like apples, make sure your friend continues to drink plenty of fluids, such as water, coconut water, or oral rehydration solutions. Sticking with easily digestible foods can also alleviate some stomach discomfort. In this regard, soft fruits like bananas, which are rich in potassium, or papayas, which are believed to have beneficial enzymes, might be better options if she finds them easier on her stomach. The focus should be on a balanced diet that promotes recovery. Encourage small, frequent meals that are gentle on the digestive system. If she experiences significant nausea or continues to have stomach issues, consulting with her healthcare provider would provide clarity and ensure she’s managing her symptoms effectively. While certain foods are traditionally thought to help during illnesses, it’s crucial to pay attention to how each choice affects her personally as everyone can react differently. Always factor in her existing medical conditions or allergies when suggesting dietary changes. If any severe symptoms or signs of complications arise, she should seek medical attention promptly to avoid any potential deterioration in her condition.
