Doctors’ responses

For chronic tonsillitis and your associated symptoms like fever, headache, and neck stiffness, it’s important to address the underlying infection and manage symptoms effectively. First, if your tonsillitis has been confirmed as bacterial, a course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor is often necessary to clear the infection. Ensure you complete the full course even if symptoms improve. In absence of bacterial confirmation, supportive care is essential. To manage fever and headache, over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be helpful. These also have anti-inflammatory properties that might ease throat and neck pain. Follow dosing guidelines carefully. Staying well-hydrated is crucial: drink plenty of fluids, including warm teas or broths, which can soothe a sore throat and prevent dehydration. For neck stiffness, gentle stretching exercises may provide some relief. Simply tilt your neck side to side and forward and back gently, but don’t force any movements. Warm compresses on your neck can help relax tight muscles and reduce pain. If your neck cracking is accompanied by sharp pain, dizziness, or numbness, you should seek medical attention promptly. Chronic tonsillitis might require further evaluation by an ENT specialist who can assess whether a tonsillectomy might be appropriate. Consider using a humidifier to keep your throat moist at night. Avoid irritants like smoke and strong odors, and try to get plenty of rest. If symptoms worsen or do not improve, see your healthcare provider for a more comprehensive evaluation and tailored treatment.
