Doctors’ responses

For addressing skin tanning even though you use sunscreen regularly, it would be important to first ensure that you’re using it correctly. Make sure you’re applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and apply it generously 15-30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every two hours and after swimming or sweating. If you’re outdoors frequently, protective clothing like hats, sunglasses, and long sleeves can also be useful. To lighten existing tanning or pigmentation, consider using topical treatments containing ingredients like niacinamide, azelaic acid, or vitamin C which can help improve skin tone. It’s also worth consulting a dermatologist who might recommend treatments such as chemical peels or laser therapy if the tanning persists.

Regarding your hair, if you’re looking for a shampoo that manages volume in heavy hair, opt for light, volumizing formulations made for oily scalps. Look for products labeled as oil-control or clarifying, and ingredients like tea tree oil known to help manage greasiness without weighing your hair down. Avoid heavy conditioning products and instead, condition your hair at the ends only or every other wash.

For oily skin, maintaining a daily routine with a gentle foaming cleanser in the morning and evening can keep oil at bay. Use non-comedogenic moisturizers and consider products with salicylic acid which controls oil production. Ensuring you’re hydrating sufficiently can help, since dehydration can sometimes lead to increased oil production as your skin tries to compensate. Always patch test new products on a small skin area before applying them widely, to avoid unexpected reactions. It’s advisable to seek personalized advice from a dermatologist if these issues persist, to tailor skincare or hair care routines specific to your needs.
