Managing combination skin can be tricky, but there are ways to reduce both acne and the resulting scars. For acne prevention, maintain a gentle skincare routine that does not strip your skin of its natural oils. Opt for a mild cleanser, and use non-comedogenic products that won’t clog your pores. You might consider a salicylic acid cleanser, which can help keep pores clear and reduce the occurrence of acne by gently exfoliating the skin. Make sure to adequately moisturize; even oily or combination skin needs moisture, perhaps a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer would be beneficial.

For dealing with active breakouts, benzoyl peroxide or topical retinoids can be effective to reduce inflammation and bacteria. Adjust these product based on how your skin tolerates them, as they can be drying. When it comes to old acne scars or hyperpigmentation, ingredients like glycolic acid or vitamin C serums can help to fade marks, enhancing cell turnover and brightening skin tone. Consistency matters—incorporate these into your routine gradually to see the best results.

If over-the-counter treatments aren’t working as desired, consider visiting a dermatologist, who can offer stronger prescription options or treatments like chemical peels or laser therapy to address stubborn scars. It’s essential to always apply sunscreen during the day, even indoors, as UV exposure can exacerbate both acne and scarring. Also, avoid picking at your skin, as this can lead to more pronounced scarring. Seek professional help if you notice any unusual signs or if acne becomes severe, as sometimes customize care may be needed to take control of your skin’s health effectively.
