Doctors’ responses

Hair loss combined with greying, dandruff, and back acne points to a multifaceted issue that might need a thorough investigation. For hair loss and greying, nutritional deficiencies could be at play, such as lack of vitamins B12, D, zinc, or iron. Ensuring a balanced diet rich in these nutrients can be beneficial. A supplement or multivitamin after discussing with a healthcare professional may be worth considering. Addressing dandruff involves maintaining scalp health. Over-the-counter anti-dandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione can help reduce flaking and itching. If the dandruff persists, seeing a dermatologist would be a good next step to rule out more persistent conditions like seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis. For back acne, maintaining good skin hygiene by using a gentle body wash and avoiding pore-clogging products is essential. Non-comedogenic lotions and topical treatments containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid may reduce active lesions. However, if acne worsens, consider consulting a dermatologist for prescription options like topical retinoids or oral antibiotics. The unexplained weight loss you mentioned is a potential red flag. It’s crucial to have a medical evaluation to rule out underlying issues, such as hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems, or other systemic conditions. A detailed history, physical examination, and possibly blood tests would help identify the root cause of this weight change. Meditation can be supportive in managing stress, which might be an indirect contributor to some of these symptoms. Regular practice of mindfulness or guided meditation through online apps or local classes could offer stress management benefits, complementing medical treatment. It’s essential to address both the physical and lifestyle factors contributing to these symptoms, with professional guidance when necessary.
