Discoloration of teeth, especially from a young age, can have various causes, despite consistent oral hygiene. It’s possible that the yellowness you’re experiencing is due to factors like genetics, enamel defects, or dietary influences. If your teeth have always been yellowish, you might have naturally thinner enamel or intrinsic stains, which are deeper within the tooth and not easily affected by regular brushing. Given your concerns, especially the persistence of yellow spots and bad breath, it would be wise to consult with a dentist for a comprehensive evaluation. They can identify any underlying structural or health issues with your teeth. In terms of what you can do in the meantime, ensure you are using the correct brushing technique and consider using a soft-bristled brush to avoid enamel erosion, which can exacerbate discoloration. Avoid foods and drinks that stain, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and especially tobacco products, if applicable. If the bad breath persists, it may be worth considering other factors like diet, hydration, and possible gastrointestinal issues, which a healthcare provider can help assess. For a more aesthetic improvement, professional teeth whitening treatments might be an option to discuss with your dentist, although it’s important they first evaluate whether your teeth are in a suitable condition for whitening. In some cases, more intense treatments like veneers might be recommended if there are significant intrinsic stains. Remember, routine dental visits every six months are crucial for maintaining oral health and preventing issues such as bad breath or decay.
