Doctors’ responses

Spots on the face can be frustrating, and their connection to other conditions like dandruff makes it worth examining a few potential causes and solutions. The facial spots you’re experiencing could be acne or related to another skin condition like seborrheic dermatitis, especially given the dandruff issue. An excess of oil and dead skin cells is frequently behind acne, but dandruff (particularly if it’s caused by a yeast called Malassezia) can contribute to irritation and inflamation as well. For managing both, starting with a good skincare and hair routine could provide some relief. Consider using a gentle cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which can help clear the pores and reduce acne. An anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredients like ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione could improve the dandruff on your scalp. When shampooing, let it sit on your scalp for a few minutes before rinsing off to allow the active ingredients to work effectively.

However, the pain in your pimples might indicate deeper pus-filled cysts, which often benefit from medical evaluation and possibly topical or oral antibiotics. Going oil-free with products is wise, but ensure you maintain hydration with a non-comedogenic moisturizer suitable for acne-prone skin. Stress management, maintaining a balanced diet, and staying hydrated can also play supporting roles in skin health. If you notice no improvement or the pain and redness worsen, seeing a dermatologist is key to ensuring there’s no underlying condition that needs targeted prescription treatment. Don’t delay in seeking advice, especially if spots persist or new symptoms emerge, as personalized medical advice can help prevent complications.
