Doctors’ responses

To address being underweight while experiencing discomfort and bloating, it’s important to ensure your approach balances increasing caloric intake with addressing digestive issues. First, focus on nutrient-dense foods that provide both calories and essential nutrients. Healthy fats, like avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil can add calories without increasing volume too much which might help with bloating. Lean proteins, such as chicken, fish, tofu, and legumes, combined with complex carbohydrates like whole grains, vegetables, and fruits, should be staples in your diet. For discomfort and bloating after eating, consider smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day instead of three large ones, which can ease strain on the digestive system and might reduce symptoms. Assess the timing and nature of your meals in relation to your exercise routine. High-intensity workouts may contribute to gastrointestinal discomfort; if this is the case, try modifying your regimen with moderate exercise to see if symptoms improve. Also, pay attention to any specific foods that might trigger bloating—common culprits can include dairy or high-fiber foods—and consider eliminating these temporarily to see if symptoms alleviate. If symptoms persist, consider consulting a healthcare provider to rule out conditions such as food intolerances, irritable bowel syndrome, or other gastrointestinal disorders. Keep track of symptoms in a diary could be helpful for the healthcare provider’s evaluation.
