Doctors’ responses

Considering you have splenomegaly, it’s crucial to be cautious about any supplements you take, including creatine and whey protein. The spleen isn’t directly involved in processing these substances, but the root cause of your splenomegaly needs to be carefully assessed before adding anything new to your routine. It’s important to first understand why your spleen is enlarged; conditions like infections, blood disorders, or liver problems could be at play. Creatine, a compound found naturally in muscle cells, is generally safe for healthy individuals in moderate amounts, but its use in adolescents can be controversial due to limited studies on long-term effects. Protein supplements like whey protein are typically safe for those with normal liver and kidney function, but again, it’s important to ensure no underlying condition might contribute to stress on these organs. Before considering supplements, I would strongly advise discussing this with your healthcare provider who can assess your individual risk factors and current health conditions. Doing so ensures that any potential interactions or adverse effects can be properly managed. They might recommend food-based nutrient sources to complementing your diet, which are less likely to complicate any existing conditions. Remember that while supplements can be beneficial in achieving optimized fitness goals, they can also pose risks if underlying health issues are not fully addressed first.
