Managing GERD with dysphagia and esophageal motility issues involves a multi-pronged approach. First, dietary modifications can play a crucial role. Aim to eat smaller meals frequently, avoid lying down right after eating, and try to elevate the head of your bed by 6-8 inches to prevent reflux while sleeping. Avoid trigger foods that worsen reflux like spicy, fatty, or acidic foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol which can irritate the esophagus. For chest pain and throat burn, over-the-counter antacids or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) might offer relief, but these should be used with medical guidance due to potential side effects with long-term use. Addressing esophagus motility specifically can be more complex. Medications that enhance motility, such as prokinetics, might be considered, though it’s essential these are prescribed by a healthcare provider. For the dizziness you mention, while it isn’t a classical symptom of GERD, it could be due to other factors like low hydration, anxiety, or even the side effects of GERD medications if you’re already taking any. A thorough review with your doctor could help identify other causes and adjust treatment accordingly. Concerning dysphagia and esophageal motility, regular monitoring by a gastroenterologist is crucial. In some cases, procedures like esophageal dilation or other interventions might be warranted if conservative measures fail to improve symptoms. Given the wide range of symptoms and potential complexity, it’s important to keep ongoing communication with your healthcare provider for personalized management of your conditions, and to ensure there are no serious complications that require more immediate attention.
