Imbalance in your sleep schedule and the stress that might come from working a night job can result in hormonal fluctuations, which can contribute to both acne and hair loss. These factors can have a cascading effect on both your skin and hair health. With cystic acne, blackheads, and whiteheads, monitoring potential triggers or skincare routines is crucial. Lack of proper sleep can exacerbates these skin issues because it may raise cortisol levels, leading to increased oil on the skin, clogging pores, and causing acne. For cystic acne, avoid picking at or squeezing the spots; it worsens inflammation and may risk infection. Since you’re allergic to sulfur, be cautious about medications like sulfa drugs. Over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid might be good alternatives. Maintain a gentle skincare routine with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. For your hair, it sounds like dryness is a concern, possibly from disrupted sleep affecting scalp health or insufficient hydration. Opt for a sulfate-free, hypoallergenic shampoo and conditioners—sulfate-free is particularly important given your allergy. Reduce heat styling and use moisturizing hair masks regularly. Eating a balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins like biotin, vitamin D, and zinc may also support hair and skin health. You may consider taking a multivitamin that avoids sulfur-based compounds. If the situation with the acne and hair does not improve or gets worse, it would be wise to consult a dermatologist or healthcare provider. They can offer a more tailored skin and hair treatment option considering the nighttime work schedule which often affects general health and routine. Try to find ways to improve your sleep quality even though you can’t change the hours you work—good sleep hygiene in terms of a regular schedule, dark, cool sleeping environment, maybe even a white noise machine may help.
