Doctors’ responses
1. Your symptoms suggest IBS with food intolerance and possible gut dysbiosis, which can reduce tolerance to many foods.
2. Mouth ulcers and unusual stool color may indicate vitamin deficiencies (B12, folate, iron) or malabsorption.
3. Histamine intolerance worsens bloating, gas and food reactions; keeping a food diary helps track triggers.
4. Gradually increase tolerance with a balanced low-FODMAP diet under guidance, probiotics, and adequate hydration.
5. Blood tests (CBC, B12, iron, vitamin D) and stool tests are needed to check for deficiencies or infection.
6. Please consult a gastroenterologist in Delhi, Lucknow, or Kanpur for tailored diet and treatment, as blackish stool sometimes needs further evaluation.
The symptoms you’re experiencing can be complex and multifactorial, given the history of IBS, mouth sores, changes in stool color, and histamine intolerance. Firstly, recurrent mouth sores may be related to nutritional deficiencies often seen in individuals with IBS, such as vitamin B12, iron, or folate deficiency, or they can indicate another condition that might be complicating your symptoms, like celiac disease, or an inflammatory condition. Smelly and silent farts are common in individuals with IBS due to fermentation of undigested carbohydrates. Histamine intolerance suggests that your body may be having issues breaking down histamine, possibly due to a deficiency in diamine oxidase, an enzyme that degrades histamine. The stool color variation—black and yellow—requires immediate evaluation. Black stool can indicate bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract and would need prompt assessment, potentially requiring endoscopic investigation. The yellow stool could also suggest malabsorption issues or bacterial overgrowth. I recommend seeking out a gastroenterologist who can provide a comprehensive evaluation, possibly through tests like comprehensive stool analysis, blood tests to check for deficiencies, or endoscopy. In the Delhi region, there are several reputable institutions like AIIMS or Medanta, where experienced gastroenterologists could offer guidance. In Kanpur or Lucknow, look for specialists in known institutes like SGPGI Lucknow or Regency Hospital in Kanpur. It’s crucial to schedule an appointment soon and discuss these symptoms to narrow down the underlying cause efficiently.
