Which juice good for loose motion? - #11825

Yuvan

I am dealing with this really uncomfortable issue lately, and to be honest, it's driving me a bit nuts. I’ve been having loose motions for the past few days, and it’s just not getting any better. First, it started off only after I ate that questionable street food, but now it's like I can’t do anything without worrying about dashing to the bathroom! I've tried drinking plenty of water, and I’ve cut out spicy foods, but I’m kinda wondering, which juice good for loose motion? Like, is there a specific juice that could help settle my stomach or maybe something that’s easier on my gut? I’ve heard some people mention banana juice or even coconut water, but I’m not sure if they actually help or if I’m just grasping at straws here. I just want to get back to normal eating and not be worried about every little thing I consume. Do certain juices make things worse? Should I avoid any particular kind while I’m like this? Any input on which juice good for loose motion would really be appreciated! I just don’t wanna be stuck feeling this way anymore. Thanks a ton!

Doctors’ responses

When you’re dealing with loose motions, the primary focus should be on staying hydrated and replenishing any lost electrolytes. Coconut water can be quite beneficial in this scenario, as it not only helps with hydration but also provides essential electrolytes, such as potassium and sodium. It’s generally well-tolerated and can support your recovery process. Another option is apple juice, but it should be consumed in moderation and ideally diluted with water. The fructose content can sometimes worsen diarrhea if taken in excess.

Regarding banana juice, it’s not as commonly consumed, but bananas themselves are excellent due to their high potassium content and ability to bulk up stool. If you’re looking for juice variations, a banana smoothie made with low-fat yogurt might be soothing and also offers probiotics, which can be beneficial for gut health. Be cautious with juices like orange or other citrus juices, as their acidity might irritate the gut further, potentially worsening symptoms.

While focusing on juices, don’t forget to maintain a bland diet with foods like rice, toast, and plain yogurt, and avoid dairy products unless they are low-lactose, as sometimes lactose intolerance can exacerbate symptoms. If your symptoms persist for more than a couple of days or if you notice any concerning symptoms such as blood in stools, severe abdominal pain, dehydration signs, or significant weight loss, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider to rule out any serious underlying conditions. Also, avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they can further irritate your digestion. Re-evaluating any recent dietary changes, medications, or stress levels might also offer some clues to the source of your discomfort.
