How to get rid of loose motions? - #11860

Shivansh

I am really worried about my stomach issues. Lately, I've been struggling with loose motions, and it's really getting in the way of my daily life. It started about a week ago when I went to this new restaurant that a friend recommended. The food was super spicy, and I didn't really think much of it at the time, but within a few hours, I was running to the bathroom non-stop. I thought it was just a 24-hour thing, but here we are, a week later, and I still can’t seem to shake it off. I've tried drinking more water, but it just seems to make it worse! And the whole time I’m just wishing I knew how to get rid of loose motions for good. I went to the doctor, and they told me to take some probiotics, but I don’t think they’re helping much. I've heard about other remedies like apple cider vinegar and stuff, and I'm really curious if anyone here has tried that or has any advice on how to get rid of loose motions fast? I’m also super worried about dehydration since I can’t keep much food in me. Just feel like I'm in a never-ending cycle. Any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Loose motions can be a nuisance, especially when they linger for more than a couple of days. First, it’s crucial to identify the potential cause. Spicy foods like the one you had could irritate your digestive track, but persistent loose motions might suggest an infection or even a functional issue like irritable bowel syndrome. If it’s been a week with ongoing symptoms, it’s worth investigating further, perhaps with stool cultures to check for any bacterial or parasitic infections. Your concern about dehydration is valid, as continued diarrhea can lead to fluid loss. Oral rehydration solutions (ORS) can be effective in maintaining electrolyte balance, rather than just plain water. Aim to sip small amounts throughout the day to prevent aggravating your symptoms. Probiotics are indeed a good long-term strategy to restore gut flora, but they might not offer immediate relief. There’s limited scientific backing for remedies like apple cider vinegar in this context, and they may irritate some stomachs further. Meanwhile, a bland diet can help; stick to foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast (often referred to as the BRAT diet). Avoid caffeinated drinks, alcohol, and dairy if they seem to exacerbate your symptoms. If you’re not seeing improvement soon, or if you’re experiencing severe fatigue, bloody stools, or significant pain, it’s important to seek further medical evaluation promptly. Extended symptoms might require additional treatments like anti-motility medications or prescription antibiotics if a specific infection is identified. Always ensure any treatment aligns with advice from a healthcare professional familiar with your full medical history.
