Loose motions me kya khana chahiye - #12214

Nikhil

I am dealing with a bit of a situation here. For the past three days, I've had these loose motions, and it's really starting to get to me. I went out for dinner with friends, and I think something didn’t sit right with me. Now, every time I eat, it seems like my stomach just goes haywire. I’m trying to remember if I’ve read somewhere about what to have during episodes of loose motions, but honestly, I’m lost. I’ve tried staying hydrated, but I just don’t know what specific foods I should eat. Loose motions me kya khana chahiye? I’ve heard things like bananas are good, but can I also have rice? Is it okay to have yogurt? I’m worried that if I eat the wrong thing, it’ll just make it worse, you know? I can't even concentrate on work, I just feel weak and irritable. Do you guys have any go-to advice for what to have? What’s the best approach? Like, should I stick to bland foods or is there something more effective? I really hope I can get this under control soon! Thanks for any tips!!

Doctors’ responses

Dealing with loose motions can be quite disruptive, especially if it’s affecting your daily routine. Staying hydrated is crucial, so you’re on the right track there. When considering what to eat, it’s often a good idea to follow the BRAT diet, which includes bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. These foods are bland and can help firm up your stools. It’s not just about being bland, these foods are also low in fiber, which is beneficial right now. Bananas are particularly helpful because they are rich in potassium which is often lost during episodes of diarrhea. Rice, preferably white rice, is also excellent; it absorbs fluids and adds bulk to stools. Yogurt, especially those containing live cultures or probiotics, can be beneficial too as they help restore the balance of good bacteria in your gut. However, make sure it’s plain yogurt, as sugar can exacerbate the problem. It’s generally advisable to avoid dairy products, caffeinated, or alcoholic beverages, as well as greasy, spicy, or high-fiber foods. These can irritate your digestive system further. Stick to these safe foods until you start feeling better, then gradually reintroduce other foods into your diet. If your symptoms persist for more than a few days or you experience signs of dehydration like dizziness or dark urine, it’s important to seek medical attention. These could be signs of something more serious needing urgent care.
