reduce heart rate naturally - #12691

Meera

I am really concerned about my heart health lately. I’ve noticed that my heart rate seems to be higher than normal, especially when I’m just sitting around or even when I’m trying to relax. It’s kinda bizarre honestly because I never had this issue before! Just last week, I was chilling on my bed, and my heart rate was like 100 bpm even though I was watching TV. I went to my doctor and they said I should try to reduce heart rate naturally since I’m not in a high-risk category for anything serious. They mentioned stress could be a factor and suggested meditation but I’m not sure how effective that will be. I also read about how staying hydrated can help, but I feel like my water intake is okay. I’ve been dabbling in some light yoga too, but it feels like I’m not seeing any real results. I guess my question is how do you really reduce heart rate naturally? Like, what works best? Anyone had success with specific herbs or teas, or maybe breathing techniques? I just don’t want this to become a bigger problem. Would love to hear any personal experiences on how to reduce heart rate naturally!

Reducing your heart rate naturally can indeed be managed through a combination of lifestyle modifications and techniques that foster relaxation. Stress is a common factor that can elevate heart rate, so managing it is crucial. Beyond meditation and yoga, which are effective for many, consider incorporating regular aerobic exercise like brisk walking or cycling — these activities can enhance cardiovascular efficiency, thereby lowering resting heart rate over time. Deep breathing exercises, such as diaphragmatic breathing, can acutely lower heart rate by calming the nervous system. Practice by lying down and placing one hand on your chest and one on your abdomen, inhaling slowly through the nose so that your abdomen rises more than your chest. Exhale gently and repeat for several minutes daily. Staying hydrated is indeed important as dehydration can cause heart rate to increase. But ensure you’re maintaining an adequate intake of electrolytes as well, which can assist in maintaining proper heart function. Herbal teas such as chamomile or valerian may help indirectly by promoting relaxation and better sleep. However, be cautious with herbs and supplements as their effects and interactions can vary, so it’s wise to consult your healthcare provider before adding them to your routine. Limiting caffeine and alcohol is advisable as they can both elevate heart rate. Keep tabs on your diet — foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids like fish and walnuts may support heart health. If you smoke, consider quitting because nicotine is known to increase heart rate. Lastly, if these strategies aren’t helping and your heart rate remains elevated, or if you experience other symptoms like dizziness or chest discomfort, return to your healthcare provider for further evaluation, as it’s important to rule out any underlying conditions.
