remove acne spots - #12744

Aditya

I am desperate to find a way to remove acne spots because they’ve been driving me crazy lately. Just last month, I had a huge breakout after what I thought was a simple dietary change. Like, I started eating more dairy and all of a sudden my face went nuts. I had these red, inflamed spots everywhere. Does diet really affect acne spots like that? I tried using some over-the-counter creams but nothing feels like it’s working to remove acne spots effectively. I went to the dermatologist too, but all they did was recommend a harsh topical treatment that made my skin feel raw. I mean, is there a gentler way to remove acne spots or at least lighten them? I’m also worried about scarring—my sister had terrible scarring from her acne and it’s like a permanent mark on her face. I just don’t wanna end up like that. Are there any home remedies that anyone found helpful to remove acne spots? I heard aloe vera is supposed to help, but does it really work? Honestly, I just feel so frustrated trying to figure this out. I just want clear skin again! Any tips or advice to remove acne spots would be amazing! Thanks!

Doctors’ responses

Diet can sometimes have an impact on acne for some people, especially with dairy products, which have been reported by some individuals to trigger breakouts. However, everyone’s skin is unique, and what causes acne in one person might not affect another. It’s important to consider that the relationship between diet and acne isn’t fully understood yet due to variations in individual responses. Given you’ve already consulted a dermatologist and found their recommendations harsh, let’s explore some gentler approaches you could try. Using non-comedogenic moisturizers and sunscreens can prevent further clogging of pores. Ingredients like niacinamide or azelaic acid can help reduce inflammation and lighten acne spots over time, offering a milder option. When trying any new product, introduce it gradually to monitor if your skin tolerates it. As for home remedies, aloe vera has soothing properties and might help reduce redness, but its effects on acne spots can be quite subtle. Additionally, honey, especially raw or manuka, can help due to its antibacterial properties. However, it’s best to patch test any home remedies to ensure they don’t irritate your skin. Regarding potential scarring, early treatment of active acne is key to preventing scars. If you notice acne leaving marks, using topical treatments containing retinoids can improve skin cell turnover and help with marks over time. However, it’s crucial to use sunscreen daily, as UV exposure can darken spots and worsen scarring. If you do experience scarring, treatments like microneedling or chemical peels might be options to consider, though these should be performed by a professional. In the end, listen to your skin, and adapt as needed. If the condition persists or worsens, revisiting a dermatologist for tailored advice and gentler prescription options might become necessary.
