aloe vera gel juice - #12972
I am dealing with some skin issues and really not sure what to do. A few weeks ago, I started using aloe vera gel juice after hearing it's great for everything from sunburn to acne. At first, I was super excited because my skin felt hydrated and really nice but then I noticed some weird stuff happening. Like, I applied the aloe vera gel juice in the evening, and by morning, my face was a little red and had some bumps. I don't know if I used too much or something? I mean, I read that aloe vera gel juice is supposed to be soothing, right? But now I’m worried that maybe I have a reaction or maybe it’s not the right product for my type of skin. I’ve even tried putting it in smoothies because I heard ingesting aloe vera gel juice could be good for digestion but then I had this, like, stomach ache. Anyone else have that or is it just me? Just trying to figure out if aloe vera gel juice is that miracle thing everyone says or if I should stop using it completely. Any thoughts? Would really appreciate any help here!

Doctors’ responses
Aloe vera is generally known for its soothing properties, but it’s not universally beneficial for everyone, especially if you have sensitive skin or specific allergies. The redness and bumps you’re noticing could be signs of irritation or an allergic reaction. It’s possible that aloe vera gel juice contains other additives or preservatives that your skin might not be reacting well to. For topical applications, always try a patch test on a small skin area before applying it to your entire face. If the redness and bumps continue, it’s worth discontinuing the use and speaking to a dermatologist. Regarding ingestion, while aloe vera juice can help with digestion for some, it can also cause side effects like stomach cramps or diarrhea, particularly if consumed in large quantities or if it’s not processed properly (aloe latex, a substance found just under the plant’s skin, can be irritating to the digestive tract). It’s best to consume aloe vera drinks that are properly filtered to remove this latex. If you’re experiencing persistent stomach discomfort, stop consuming the juice and consult a healthcare provider. It’s also important to ensure you’re using the product as directed and not in excessive amounts. Remember, while aloe vera has benefits, it isn’t a cure-all, and reactions can vary. Always listen to your body and stop using products that don’t feel right for you. If skin issues or digestive symptoms persist, seek medical advice to explore other treatments or identify any underlying issues.
