heart diseases symptoms - #13351

Avni

I am kinda worried here because I’ve been feeling really strange lately, and I’m not sure if I should be freaking out or what. For about a month now, I’ve been getting these weird sensations in my chest, almost like a fluttering, and sometimes it feels like my heart is racing for no reason. Like, one minute I’m sitting at my desk working, and the next I’m all sweaty and my pulse is just bouncing off the walls! I know my family has a history of heart diseases symptoms, so that’s been nagging at me. I also had this happen on the weekend when I was just hanging out, but didn’t think much of it then... maybe it was the coffee? When I went for a check-up last week, the doc mentioned something about cholesterol levels being a bit off, which has me thinking — could that be related to heart diseases symptoms? I also sometimes get these mild aches in my left arm but I thought it was just from sitting wrongly. Kinda sounds silly, right? Should I be worried about heart diseases symptoms? Like, what even are the signs that I need to pay closer attention to? I’m feeling a bit lost here and honestly, a little scared. What do you guys think?

Doctors' responses

It sounds like you’re experiencing several signs that could be associated with heart issues, and given your family history, it’s absolutely a good idea to pay close attention. The fluttering sensation in your chest could be what’s known as palpitations, and a racing heart could indicate episodes of tachycardia. These symptoms, along with sweating and arm aches, do have potential links to heart-related problems. With a family history of heart disease and your cholesterol levels being off, it’s worth considering that these could be contributing factors. Elevated cholesterol can lead to plaques in the coronary arteries, increasing your risk for conditions like coronary artery disease. The fact that you’re experiencing these symptoms at rest, combined with the family history, means it’s crucial to get a more detailed evaluation. The key signs of heart disease can include chest pain or discomfort (often felt in the center or left side of the chest), unexplained weakness or fatigue, dizziness, or shortness of breath. You should catch your doctor again, explain all these symptoms, and say that they happen during rest too. They might suggest further tests like an ECG, Holter monitor, or a stress test to assess heart function more accurately. You shouldn’t ignore these signs, chance isn’t a good approach here. Since you mentioned the effect of coffee, it could be wise to limit caffeine intake and monitor whether it changes your symptoms. Make sure you reach out to a healthcare provider promptly for a precise diagnosis; understanding early allows for better management and reduces future risks.
