loose motion gharelu upchar - #13388

Sia

I am really worried about this. My 8-year-old son has been having loose motion for the past couple of days, and it’s really stressing me out. He suddenly started having loose motion after eating some street food that we thought was fine. At first, it was just a few times, but now it feels like every few minutes, he’s running to the bathroom. I’ve tried to keep him hydrated and am giving him some ORS but I'm wondering if there are any good loose motion gharelu upchar that might help us at home before we consider visiting the hospital. Also, he keeps complaining about a stomach ache, which makes me even more anxious. Is there a certain food or drink that might help with loose motion gharelu upchar? I read about bananas and rice, and how they can help firm things up, but is there anything else I can do? Should I be concerned if he starts showing signs of dehydration? I just want to make sure that this loose motion doesn’t continue and gets better soon. Any tips would be really helpful! Thanks!

Doctors’ responses

While it’s understandable to be concerned about your son’s loose motions, the key focus should be on preventing dehydration and monitoring his symptoms closely. You’re already on the right track with Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), which is crucial in replenishing lost fluids and electrolytes. Continue to offer it frequently, even in small sips if he’s reluctant. In addition to bananas and rice, which are part of the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast), you can try giving him plain yogurt because its probiotics can aid in restoring gut flora. Avoid foods that are high in sugar or fat as these can worsen his condition. Make sure he avoids dairy products, apart from yogurt, until he’s feeling better, as lactose can sometimes exacerbate diarrhea in such situations. While home remedies can be beneficial in mild cases, it’s important to look out for signs of dehydration or worsening symptoms. If he’s showing a lack of energy, has dry lips, reduced urination, or sunken eyes, these could signal dehydration and necessitate prompt medical attention. The abdominal pain in conjunction with frequent loose motions could indicate something more serious, like an infection requiring medical intervention, particularly if symptoms persist beyond two days or start getting worse. If his stool becomes bloody, or if he develops a fever or persistent vomiting, seek professional medical evaluation immediately. In such cases, postponing medical advice can aggravate his condition. The bottom line is, while home remedies like ORS and appropriate dietary choices can manage mild symptoms, keeping a close watch on his overall condition and responding quickly to red flags remains critical in ensuring his recovery.
