homemade remedy for glowing skin - #13695

Aisha

I am really confused about trying a homemade remedy for glowing skin. A few weeks ago, I started noticing my skin looking dull and, like, lifeless. I mean, I used to get compliments on my skin all the time, but now it's just blah. I’ve tried a bunch of store-bought products, but they either break me out or don't do anything at all. I read on a blog that a homemade remedy for glowing skin could be as simple as mixing honey and lemon or something. I gave that a try, but honestly, I didn't see much difference. Then I thought maybe I should try avocado or oatmeal instead, because I’ve heard those could work wonders too. Have any of you had experience with these homemade remedies for glowing skin? I am worried I'm wasting my time with all these kitchen mixes, and what if I mess up my skin even more? Like, what should I be looking for in a homemade remedy for glowing skin? I’m not sure if I just need to change my diet or what, but I really want to bring back my glow without using harmful chemicals. Any suggestions would seriously be helpful!

Doctors’ responses

When considering homemade remedies for glowing skin, it’s important to approach with a bit of caution and a focus on what might be at the root of your skin’s dull appearance. There are indeed various natural ingredients that can be part of a gentle routine to enhance your skin’s radiance. However, it’s crucial to understand that while some kitchen ingredients might offer temporary benefits, they can sometimes cause irritation, especially if your skin is sensitive or already being aggravated by other factors. Honey is often moisturizing due to its humectant properties, potentially contributing to a more glowing complexion, while lemon juice is a natural astringent but can be quite harsh; it might cause irritation or increase sun sensitivity due to its acidity. Hence, its best used sparingly and definitely diluted. Avocado and oatmeal, on the other hand, are generally gentle and known for their soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, often suitable for most skin types. Avocado provides healthy fats and phyto-compounds that can nourish the skin externally, while oatmeal can help to calm and lightly exfoliate. If you’re experimenting with these, applying thin layers, leaving them on your skin for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinsing thoroughly is typical. Alongside these topical approaches, don’t underestimate the power of diet and hydration; ensuring an intake of vitamin-rich foods, especially those high in antioxidants like fruits and vegetables, drinking enough water, and reducing stress through adequate rest and relaxation can greatly influence your skin’s health from within. If you’re still finding no change and your skin seems persistently dull, it might be worthwhile to consult with a dermatologist. They can evaluate if there might be underlying issues contributing to this change in your skin, like deficiencies or hormonal balances, and offer more personalized guidance. Always prioritize gentle ingredients and avoid frequent changes to allow your skin time to adapt and respond to any new routine.
