loose motion fruits to eat - #13865
I am really worried! For the past few days, I've been dealing with terrible loose motion, and it's just making everything complicated. I’ve tried staying hydrated and eating bland foods, but I’ve read that some fruits might help too? I remember my grandma used to say bananas are good for loose motion, and I love them, but then I also heard about apples and how they can be beneficial. Anyway, I just don’t know which loose motion fruits to eat while trying to feel better. Yesterday I ate some pears and I think they made it worse, ugh! And like, I've been super cautious about what I’m consuming, such as avoiding dairy, so it’s hard to think about adding fruits into my diet again. Honestly, I'm a little confused if I should stick to just bananas, or if other fruits like papaya or even cooked apples might help with the loose motion? Could I go wrong adding fruits too early? I want to recover but I’m not sure what loose motion fruits to eat! Help me out, any advice would really help!

Doctors’ responses
When dealing with loose motions, choosing the right fruits can be beneficial. Bananas are indeed a great choice as they are rich in pectin, which helps absorb excess water in the intestines and firm up stools. Additionally, bananas are easy to digest and provide a necessary boost of potassium, which is often depleted during episodes of diarrhea. Apples can be useful as well, but it’s recommended to have them cooked. The cooking process makes apples easier to digest and the pectin content in apple sauce can help solidify stools. Raw apples might be irritating due to their fiber content when consumed during loose motions.
Papaya is another fruit you can consider. It is gentle on your digestive system and can help improve digestion, but it’s always best to introduce it slowly. Papaya contains enzymes that might soothe digestive discomfort and can be a helpful addition. Be cautious with pear, as it has a high fiber content that could exacerbate the condition. Therefore, it’s sensible to stick with bland, easily digestible fruits until symptoms improve. It’s important to consume these foods in moderation and not abruptly switch your diet, even to those deemed beneficial. Keep an eye on your symptoms, and if they persist or worsen, consider consulting a healthcare professional. Remember that staying hydrated and replacing electrolytes is crucial, so continue with oral rehydration solutions. Also, it’s wise to avoid caffeine and alcohol until recovery.
