is soda water good for kidney stones - #14036

Aditi

I am really worried about my friend who just found out he has kidney stones. He loves drinking soda water, like, all the time, and I heard somewhere that soda water can actually be good for kidney stones?? He started drinking it more frequently after his diagnosis, thinking it might help, but I’m not sure if that’s the best idea. I read some articles saying fizzy drinks could be bad because of the sugar or phosphoric acid in them or whatever, but then others say the carbonation could help with hydration, which is crucial for preventing kidney stones. I mean, he's always kinda relied on soda water to stay away from sugary sodas, but now I’m confused about what’s really true. Is soda water good for kidney stones or not? Could it be doing more harm than good? He seems to think anything bubbly is fine, but should he stop drinking it or what? I feel like I need to set him straight but don’t wanna freak him out more, ya know? Like, how do you even figure out if something as simple as soda water is good or bad for kidney stones when there’s so much mixed info??
