acne marks home remedy - #14058

Tanmay

I am really struggling with these acne marks on my face. A few months ago, I had this really bad breakout, and now I can’t shake off these terrible marks! I’ve tried tons of products, but nothing seems to work. My friend suggested an acne marks home remedy she swears by, but I'm hesitant ya know because I’ve been disappointed before. She mentioned something about lemon juice and honey being good for acne marks home remedy, but I’ve read some places that it can burn your skin. What if I do a patch test and it still messes me up? I've been feeling super self-conscious about my skin, especially when going out with friends or even to work. I dunno if I should keep looking into this acne marks home remedy or just go back to my dermatologist. He prescribed me something but it was really expensive! Does anyone here have success with a safe, inexpensive acne marks home remedy? I’m just worried I’ll waste more time and money. Any advice would be super appreciated, thanks!

Doctors’ responses

When considering home remedies for acne marks, it’s crucial to approach them cautiously, particularly when it comes to ingredients like lemon juice, which can be quite harsh on the skin, potentially causing irritation or even burns. Honey is generally mild and soothing due to its moisturizing properties and might help in the healing process, although it’s not a guaranteed solution for fading acne marks. If you do try such remedies, always do a patch test on a less visible area to evaluate your skin’s reaction. For more consistent results, look into over-the-counter products containing ingredients like niacinamide, which can help fade marks by reducing inflammation and promoting skin renewal. Hyaluronic acid is another component to consider for its hydrating effect, which can help improve skin texture over time. Additionally, silicone gels or sheets are also useful in flattening acne scars and hyperpigmentation. If cost is a concern, these are often more affordable than prescription medications. Meanwhile, ensuring a good skincare routine with proper cleansing, non-comedogenic moisturization, and dedication to sun protection using broad-spectrum sunscreen can prevent darkening of the scars. Consistent use over time is key, as results might take weeks to become noticeable. If these approaches aren’t providing enough progress, a return to the dermatologist to discuss more cost-effective options or therapeutic interventions could be wise. They might offer insights into alternative prescriptions or treatments like chemical peels, laser therapy, or microneedling that can provide more noticeable improvements for acne scarring within a feasible budget.
