green tea for skin before and after - #14119

Zoya

I am really curious about the effects of green tea for skin before and after using it consistently. I’ve read a ton of articles about how green tea for skin can work wonders, but I'm still on the fence. Last month, I started drinking green tea daily and even made a homemade green tea mask, hoping to tackle some of my skin issues. Honestly, my skin felt kinda refreshed, but I can't tell if the improvement was just because I was drinking more water or if the green tea for skin was actually doing something. There are so many before and after pics online, and they look amazing! However, I'm not seeing that huge transformation myself, and it makes me wonder what I am doing wrong. I’ve also noticed a few breakouts, which I didn’t expect with using green tea for skin. I thought it was supposed to help with acne or at least reduce inflammation. Maybe I’m just being impatient? Should I be incorporating it in other ways? Like, should I focus just on the drinking part or the topical stuff too? If anyone has experiences or tips regarding green tea for skin before and after, I’d really appreciate you sharing. Thanks!

Doctors’ responses

Green tea has gained popularity in skincare primarily because it contains polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which are known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These compounds can help reduce sebum production, fight free radicals, and mitigate skin inflammation, which might contribute to improved complexion and potentially less acne over time. Drinking green tea can be beneficial, as the antioxidants circulate in your system, potentially promoting overall skin health, but it is also often used topically in masks, serums, or creams to target specific issues like redness and acne. However, effects can vary based on individual skin types and their response to these compounds.

If you’re seeing breakouts, it might be a reaction to the mask or another factor in your routine — not necessarily the green tea itself. It’s crucial to ensure the mask is adequately prepared, not too harsh, and rinsed off thoroughly. Alternatively, you could try commercial products containing green tea extracts, as they’re often specifically formulated to be gentle on the skin.

Patience is indeed key, as skin generally needs around a month (one full cycle of skin regeneration) to show significant improvement from changes in diet or topical applications. It’s also possible that the effects you’re seeing are due to increased hydration or other lifestyle improvements. You might consider maintaining a diary to track your skin’s progress more objectively. Remember, any persistent or worsening skin issues should be evaluated by a dermatologist to rule out underlying conditions. Meanwhile, continue protective measures like using SPF, as green tea won’t replace these foundational skincare habits.
